Segments are groups of contacts that share something in common — an industry, a behavior, a lifecycle stage, or any combination of criteria you define. Use segments to target campaigns, personalize outreach, and understand your audience.
Creating a Segment
- Navigate to Marketing > Segments and click Create Segment.
- Name your segment (e.g., "Active Leads - Last 30 Days").
- Add conditions to define who belongs in this segment:
- Contact properties: industry, company size, location, tags, source.
- Activity: opened email in last X days, clicked link, submitted form.
- Pipeline: deal stage, deal value, assigned rep.
- Use AND to require all conditions, or OR to match any condition.
- Click Save. The segment will show a count of matching contacts.
Dynamic vs Static Segments
- Dynamic segments update automatically as contacts match or stop matching your conditions. This is the default and recommended type.
- Static segments are frozen snapshots — useful for one-time campaigns or historical analysis.
Tip
Start with 3-5 core segments: "All Contacts", "Active Leads (30 days)", "Customers", "Cold Leads (90+ days inactive)", and "Newsletter Subscribers". These cover most common campaign targets.
